This is from the view screen of a VP-8 Image Analyzer, a computer designed for the Mars space mission. It was designed to simulate on an isometric display elevation correlating with darkeness or lightness of the image. Hence, dark areas show more elevation where lighter areas are recessed. The VP-8 demonstrates the Shroud image alrady contains distance information. This property does not occur with any known paintings or photographs.
