Max Frei, Swiss criminologist applied sticky tape to Shroud in 1978 to remove pollen samples. In his initial analysis, he determined several pollen spores from plants unique to the Holy Land. In 1997, Dr. Avinoam Danin, the leading botanist in Israel confirmed the presence of pollen and flower images from plants that only grow in Israel.
